Taxi--The cost of the taxi from the airport is $15 and it is a posted fare. The ride should not take more than fifteen minutes. Once you are at the condo, there is a cab stand within a five-minute walk. (See map of Sosuo.)map. If you would like to have a driver meet your plane we would recommend calling "Taxi Cuchi" Cuchi speaks a little English and he will meet your plane. He knows where the condo is located in Blue Bayou. His number is 809-571-3498. He is also a great resource to show you around the area. Any of the cabs at the airport will be happy to take you to the Condo. Just tell them it is behind (atras) Banco Popular in Sosua.

Beach --Blue Bayou is actually on a cliff. There are steps leading down to the ocean where there is snorkeling and swimming; however it is dangerous because of the sharp rocks, the depth is about ten feet (You should not attempt to swim off the cliff if the surf is up). There is a new beach forming about 100 ft from the front of the condo. Thats swimming feet. From there you can swim around to another beach. You should be a good swimmer who is comfortable in the ocean before attempting this. Watch for Sea Urchins in the rocks when you climb the ladder.

If you like to hang out at the beach, it is a short walk away.Skyview It's a good idea to bring a beach bag or a backpack for your supplies. When you get to the beach (Sosua Beach)ask for Miguel. He will act as your concierge at the beach. (2 beach lounges, a table and umbrella are $100 pesos or $4 US. Be sure and try one of his Pina Coladas. There is nothing better. There are plenty of restaurants and drink bars at the beach. The best hamburgers in Sosua are at the beach. The swimming is great. Map to beaches. All beaches in the Dominican Republic are public. If you can find your way behind the Casa Marina there is another lovely beach. This is more of a resort beach and you lose a little of the local flavor but to each his own. Note that on Sunday the locals tend to take over Sosua Beach. They love the beach but if you are looking for a quieter time that would be a good day to enjoy the pool at the condo. My favorite beach is actually Cabarete Beach. It is about a 10 minute drive and about $7 US by cab. Great resturants, great walking beach, and it is fun to watch the kite and wind surfers.
Money--- Pesos and dollars are almost interchangeable but it's advisable to have some pesos available. There is an ATM at the end of the street. There is always someone around who will exchange pesos for dollars. Just check and make sure you get the exchange rate.
Crime. Crime in the Dominican Republic is becoming a serious problem. I have not heard of anyone being robbed on the street but breaking into apartments and homes is common. Some precautions are in order. Try to exchange money or go to an ATM on the way out from the property and do not flash money. When you leave the apartment make sure anything you want to keep is in the safe. Lock up the patio doors and front door when you leave the apartment. The staff can be trusted and have all worked at Blue Bayou for many years. Just be careful and you will be fine.
Shopping--There are two good supermarkets within walking distance of the Condo. Souvenirs will certainly be no problem, but be sure to negotiate a price. It will be half the price or better. Just visit the local kiosks located along the beach. You can buy any souvenir there. Beware, if you look interested you will be pounced on. The people who run the kiosk are usually sweet people but they need to make a sale.
